In every man’s success narrative, there is always a pivotal point. In the early 2000s, it was widely assumed that children who attended religious schools would not have a successful future. That is not the case with the founder of Nasi Kukus Tonggek (NKT). Being assigned to run a renowned café alone in his early twenties, with no prior business experience, pushed him to learn the nuances of commercial life in such a short period.
It all started with a little stall in front of a restaurant selling Nasi Kukus with various side dishes. The notion that the Nasi Kukus was served in a can made it one-of-a-kind and set it apart from the rest of the competition in town. After a few serves, the stall became the talk in the city and established a reputation.
Nasi Kukus Tonggek was born after a five-year rocky path packed with victories and failures.
With the motto “Made by Malaysian for the Universe,” Nasi Kukus Tonggek aims to elevate the status of a simple but delectable dish, Nasi Kukus, to become a meal representing Malaysia, making Malaysia well-known through this meal.
Nasi Kukus Tonggek strives to accomplish five goals: to serve food in thirty seconds, to solve the problem of customers not knowing what to eat or where to eat it, to provide delicious food at an affordable price, to provide customers with a simple, filling, enjoyable, delicious yet affordable meal, and to be the market leader in the Nasi Kukus league. Nasi Kukus Tonggek envisions having 200 outlets all around Malaysia and reaching 32.4 million people in three years, allowing all Malaysians to enjoy Nasi Kukus Tonggek.
