Postponement of the 5th SME and Entrepreneurs Business Awards SEBA 2020 Gala Dinner due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) Announcement
KUALA LUMPUR, 12th January 2021 – The 5th SME and Entrepreneurs Business Awards Gala Dinner, also known as SEBA 2020, originally set to be held on the 21st January 2021 at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, will be postponed due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) movement announced by the Malaysian Government.
SEBA is an annual initiative organised by Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia, aims at recognising Malaysia’s most notable companies and entrepreneurs. Past winners including luminaries from the industry such as Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza (Celebrity Entrepreneur of The Year 2017/2018), Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew (Lifetime Achievement Award 2018), and Datuk Ramli Ibrahim (performing Art Entrepreneur of the Year 2018).
“It is unfortunate that our SEBA 2020 Gala Dinner will be postponed for a second time due to the COVID-19 situation. This is our first time facing a situation such as this, and our organising committee is doing our best to prepare for the Gala Dinner to only happen when the MCO is lifted. We will take all necessary precautions and adhere to the required SOPs set by the Government. A new date for the SEBA 2020 Gala Dinner will be announced soon,” says Lyndia Wong, the Organising Chairperson of SEBA 2020.
It is confirmed that eight states and federal territories in Malaysia are going to be under MCO, as announced by the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday. The MCO will start from 13th January for two weeks, until 26th January 2021. Social activities involving large gatherings such as conferences and business seminars will not be allowed in any way.
“The return of MCO and RMCO is necessary to reduce the risk of infection and to break the COVID-19 chain. Though we anticipate that it will put more businesses in a tough position, we understand the need to do so. It is a tough call, but one that has to be made. Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia is ready to assist businesses in any ways we can,” says Nitesh Malani Chairman of Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia and the founder of SME and Entrepreneurs Business Awards | SEBA.
A distinguished award ceremony for the crème de la crème of Malaysian SMEs and Entrepreneurs, SEBA will be hosting their annual fifth installment this year to honor the most outstanding SMEs and Entrepreneurs of the year. The theme for this year’s gala adopts an inflight concept, where esteemed guests will ‘cruise across’ five cities and experience delicacies from each unique location. The team behind SEBA will be monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely and will be announcing a new date for the SEBA 2020 Gala Dinner soon.
